He was born in Buffalo, New York to Sheldon and Dorothy Koons Thompson. Shelly was predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Louise Anundson Thompson and his son Sheldon Thompson, Jr. (Dec., 1982). He leaves behind two daughters: Cecelia T. Dunfee of Tampa, Florida and Sally T. Hinkel of Sarasota. He also left behind four grandchildren and six great grandchildren who all adored him.
Sheldon was a man who believed in improving his communities. He was involved with the Coast Guard Auxiliary, the planning and completion of the International Trade Center and getting a heliport on the Hospital in Sarasota. He was very involved in the Church of the Good Shepherd as an usher, producing the pew fronts and resetting all the pews in the church and refinishing the old graves in the cemetery.
Shelly loved the mountains, loved making friends here and loved sitting, rocking on the porch, looking out at the environment surrounding him. He always said it was calming, relaxing and breath taking.
Sheldon’s Memorial Service will take place August 2, 2014 at Church of the Good Shepherd at 2 p.m. He will forever be in our thoughts and in our
