Helen Brandt Moore, 104, of Cashiers, passed peacefully at home to eternal rest on Oct. 27, 2022.

Her husband of over 70 years, John Clark Moore, Jr., pre-deceased her on January 16, 2018. Helen was a dear wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She moved to Cashiers in 1981 when she and “Clark” retired.

Helen was born in Minneapolis on April 6, 1918, to her parents, Emil and Edyth Brandt. She was the eldest of three children, having twin brothers Harold and Donald Brandt, both of whom pre-deceased her. Helen attended Rosevelt High School in Minneapolis, ultimately enrolling at the University of Minnesota until WWII interrupted her studies. While she wanted to be a Microbiologist, she enjoyed accounting, having worked many years at Lutheran Brotherhood.

She moved to New York in 1945 to become a stewardess for American Airlines. It was there that she met Clark, a pilot with whom she often flew to Chicago. They married in Minneapolis on June 7, 1947 and moved to Forest Hills, NY. There, her son, John Clark Moore, III , (Cashiers, NC) was born in 1948. They then moved to Englewood, NJ, where daughter Barbara Moore Cope (Huntington, NY) was born in 1954.

The family moved to Paris in late 1954 as Clark then worked for International Air Transport Association (IATA) based in Paris.

In 1968, they moved to Geneva, Switzerland as IATA consolidated operations there. Helen and Clark resided in Geneva until 1981, when they retired to Cashiers. In those times in Paris and Geneva, she travelled extensively while raising her children, seeing much of post WWII Europe rebuild after the devastation the war had delivered. She said she would try out Paris for two years (even though she initially spoke no French, but ultimately learned) and stayed in Europe for 26 years; 14 years in Paris and 12 years in Geneva.

Helen most enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an accomplished musician, painter (learned in Paris), gardener, cook and general organizer of all things social. As a member of the Country Club of Sapphire Valley, she was known for organizing social events and sinking many winning putts during mixed golf events when more accomplished golfers failed. Her paintings hang on the walls of many friends and family, leaving an eternal memory of her artistic talents. In spite of saying she never liked dogs, all the family dogs worshipped Helen, much to her dismay.

Helen is survived by her son John Clark Moore, III and Patrica Morse (Cashiers, NC), and daughter Barbara Moore Cope and husband Peter (Huntington, NY); granddaughter Alexandra Marie Cope Salomon of East Northport, NY (husband Andrew, great grandchildren Nathan and Sophie); grandsons Bradley Clark Moore (wife Jamie, great grandchildren Olivia and Conrad) of Moraga, CA; Alan Paul Moore (wife Leanna, great grandchildren Sydney and Addison) of San Jose, CA; Peter Scott Cope Jr. of Kings Park, NY, (wife Tracey, great grandchildren Autumn and Blake).

A celebration of life will be held at Cashiers United Methodist Church on December 10 at 11am.
