District Attorney Ashley Welch takes oath of office
Ashley Hornsby Welch took the oath of office again as district attorney for the newly renumbered Prosecutorial District 43 on Jan. 1, beginning her second four-year term of office. The Republican ran unopposed in the November 2018 election.
The oath of office was administered by Superior Court Judge William H. Coward. DA Ashley Welch will continue to strive to keep the western North Carolina communities a safe place to live and to put the highest priority on protecting those most vulnerable to crime, including child victims, according a news release from her office.
DA Welch has also appointed 12 assistant district attorneys who took their oath of office to prosecute and will carry forward her vision to effectively represent the people the 43rd district, including those in southern Jackson County. Welch’s assistant district attorneys include Christina Matheson, T. Jason Arnold, Caleb Decker, Kimberly Hayes Harris, John S. Hindsman Jr., Jeff D. Jones, Max E. Pennington, Alexis Solheim, Natalie Teague, Vickie Teem, Kaleb D. Wingate and Kate Wrenn.
