Scores pack Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library for the 2017 Chocolate Cook-off. Organizers hope the event’s 2018 edition will top the $1,100 raised last year -- money that goes to support the library. It is set for 1-2:30 p.m. Feb. 17. (Contributed photo.)

Entries needed for library-benefit chocolate fest

CASHIERS -- Friends of the Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library’s seventh annual Chocolate Cook-Off is set for 1-2:30 p.m. Feb. 17. The event will offer a double treat: delectable chocolate and the opportunity to support the Friends of the Library in its mission on behalf of the Cashiers’ library. Admission is $6 per person and free to children 4 and younger.

Organizers welcome participants in a friendly competition that offers multiple awards: first and second place ribbons, plus a $50 prize for the best chocolate dessert picked by a three-judge panel based on taste, aroma, creativity and eye appeal. Another award is given for a People's Choice award and for best table decoration decided by ballots of those in attendance. The silent auction starts at 2 p.m.

Anyone interested in entering the cook-off should pick up an application at the front desk of Albert Carlton-Cashiers Community Library.

For information, email Nancy Vetterick at or call/text her at 352-213-8584.

Friends of the Library members invite all interested persons to join the group in its work in support of Cashiers’ library. Membership forms are available at the library’s front desk.
