U.S. 64 West may close for four days starting Monday afternoon

CASHIERS -- A stretch of U.S. Highway 64 West between Cashiers and Highlands may completely close to traffic as soon as 4 p.m. this Monday, Oct. 16, according to a North Carolina Department of Transportation news release. The work is expected to last four days after the start time. The announcement was issued Friday morning.

The emergency closure is needed because two pipes underneath the road ruptured unexpectedly and need to be replaced as soon as possible.

As a detour, the release suggests taking N.C. Highway 107 North to North Norton Road and then accessing U.S. 64 that way.
