Village Green fireworks postponed until Friday, July 6

CASHIERS -- Minutes after the Crossroads Chronicle’s July 4 print edition went to press Monday afternoon, it was learned the community Independence Day celebration set for Wednesday, July 4 at the Village Green has been canceled. This includes the Village Green’s July Fourth fireworks show just after dark, as well as the concert preceding it.
“The company that puts on our (fireworks) show had an unexpected death in the family,” Ann Self, executive director of the Village Green, told the Chronicle via phone. Because of complicated permitting requirements, Self was unable to line up another company in time to fill in for the original one on July 4.
However, the Village Greens Commons will now instead present its big annual fireworks show a few days after Independence Day -- it is now set for this Friday, July 6 and will be shortly after dark. The rescheduled fireworks show is being touted as "colossal" on the Village Green website. There will also be the normal 6:30 p.m. Friday Groovin’ on the Green concert on July 6. “The band performing then, Hurricane Creek, has generously agreed to keep playing a little longer than usual and will play up until the fireworks show starts,” Self said.
Hurricane Creek’s George Reeves is a Glenville resident and the band is a southern Jackson County favorite. It is mostly known for its classic rock tunes.
Admission to both events is free, but donations are welcomed. Parking is very limited.
Thousands typically attend the annual Village Green fireworks displays.
