A memorial service for Hal Phillips is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, July 28 at Glenville Wesleyan Church in Glenville. Pastor Ralph Campbell and Minister Margaret Howell will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the VFW Post 10685, Glenville.

Nancy Jaynes Coulton passed away on May 30, 2018, at her home at Deerfield Episcopal Retirement Community in Asheville.

Joshua Caleb McKinney, 32, of Lake Toxaway passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2018.  

He was the son of James and Debora Bryant McKinney of Lake Toxaway.

Hal Arthur Phillips, 79, of Glenville passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018.

 

Born in Wichita, Kansas, he was the son of the late Harold A. Phillips and Pearl E. Bradstreet Phillips.

Robert G. Varkony, born on Jan. 27, 1933 in Throop, Pennsylvania, passed away at age 85 on April 25, 2018 in Orlando, Florida.

Charlotte Casler Carroll, 73, of Sneads Ferry, Florida passed away Tuesday, May 22, 2018 at her home.

A private service will be announced at a later date at Church of the Good Shepard in Cashiers.

A Cashiers memorial service to celebrate the life of Melanie Brown Ting of Raleigh will be conducted for summer friends and church family. The service is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2 at Grace Community Church.

Elaine Barnett, 92, a longtime resident of Cashiers, died on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 from complications of cancer.

The daughter of Sam and Ann Lewis Beatty, she was born in Youngstown, Ohio on April 8, 1925. She was the first in her family to attend college, at Miami University in Miami, Ohio, where she met her future husband, Dick Barnett.

Marie Teague Cranston, 87, a resident of Highlands and a former resident of Augusta, Georgia, died at Chestnut Hill on Jan. 29, 2018 after a brief illness.

Terry "Butch" Von Waller, 60, of Highlands passed away Saturday, May 5, 2018.

Born in Tampa, Florida, he was the son of Lillian Zachary Waller and the late Albert Lendal Waller.

Don H. Jones passed away at his Florida home in LaBelle on May 1, 2018. Their northern residence is in Cullowhee.

He was born in Morristown, New Jersey on March 21, 1947. Don Jones was the oldest child of the “sibling 7” of the late Donald S. and Jean Jones.

Deborah Teresa Mackie, 61, of Scaly Mountain, passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2017.

She was born in Winston Salem to the late Hugh Edward and Ollie Ada Styers Mackie.

John Hammond Griffith, 82, of Glenville passed away Sunday, March 18, 2018.

He was born in Washington, D.C., the son of the late John Hammond and Hazel Jaynes Griffith.

Mr. Griffith was a veteran of the United States Army. He was an engineer and was a member of Grace Community Church in Cashiers.

Jack Dempsey, beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, 88, of Cashiers peacefully left this world on Saturday, March 10, 2018 surrounded by family.

He leaves his legacy through his wife of 66 years, Ginger; two sons, Jack Arthur Dempsey Jr. (Robyn) and Joseph Lyle Dempsey; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Michael Jamieson, a longtime resident of Florida, died Thursday, Feb. 22 at his Cashiers home. He was 78 years old.
