Gerald Hugh Johnson passed away peacefully after an extended battle with cancer. 

David Van Dyke Burchfield, born on May 15, 1934 in Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on Sept. 28, 2019.  He is survived by his loving wife, Sally Ann of Lake Toxaway; brother, William (Susan) of Concord; daughter, Susan (Daryl) Grieger of San Antonio, Texas; son, John (Itzel) of San Miguel, Mexico; son, James of Lake Toxaway; stepson, Kevin Brandes of New York; granddaughter, Ashton (Jimmy) McDonald of Texas; and grandson, Austin (Taraka) Grieger of Texas.

Richard C. (Dick) Rust died Monday, Sept. 23, 2019.

The son of the late Philip G. Rust and Eleanor Francis Rust, he was born in Wilmington, Delaware on April 15, 1940, and grew up in Thomasville, Ga.

Ruby Rice Talley, 81, of Cashiers, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Aug. 26, 2019.

John Huxley, beloved husband of Faye (Mellon) Huxley of Crystal River, Florida and Glenville, passed away on June 18, 2019 at Seven Rivers Medical Center in Crystal River, after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada on March 3, 1936.

Charles Brightman Skinner, a lifelong resident of Jacksonville, Florida and known to all as a true Southern gentleman, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at the age of 93. 

Megan Diane McLean

Cashiers’ own Megan Diane McLean, 42, a bright star of the community, lost her tough battle with cancer Saturday, May 25.  Since 2014 when she was first diagnosed with cancer, she has been a fierce warrior fighting this insidious disease.  Although the battle lasted five long years, she always maintained a positive outlook with her big smile -- even offering others support and advice

Gena “GG” Kay Bryson, 56, of Cashiers, passed away Monday, May 13, 2019.

She was a gift shop owner in Cashiers, and she enjoyed flowers and arts and crafts.

Joyce G. Madden, 79, of Cashiers was called home to be with the Lord around 9 p.m. on April 28, 2019.

She was the daughter of the late James Weldon and Ella Mae Gillespie.

John “Bud” M. Kircher, 82, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 3, 2019, at Cleveland Clinic in Weston, Florida.

He was born on April 23, 1937, in Escanaba, Michigan, to Merwin and Marie (Bell) Kircher.

Doris Arnold Wall

The arrival of Doris Arnold into the world coincided with the height of the Great Depression that hit eastern North Carolina particularly hard. Her home, not far from the banks of the muddy Tar river, was not something to brag about and the family struggled to make ends meet.

Betty Rice Henson, 71, of Cashiers, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Tuesday April 30, 2019.

A native and lifelong resident of Cashiers, she was the daughter of the late Edd and Gracie Rice.

Julia Debra “Debbie” Sherman, 64, Big Ridge Road, Glenville, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from complications of congestive heart failure.

She was the eldest child of the late George Shook Sr. and Betty Jo Hooper.

Janie “Patsy” Carolyn Penland Fisher, 85, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2019.

A funeral service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 28 in the Chapel of Bryant-Grant Funeral Home with the Rev. Andy Cloer officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery in the Goldmine community.

Bessie Conner, 72, of Glenville passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at her home.

She was the wife of James Ray Conner and the daughter of the late J.C. and Ella Mae Franks.
