Richard (Dick) Blossman Spangenberg, 89, passed away at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, May 8.

Dick is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Nicole; their children, Dominique Laan (Cyril); Marc Spangenberg (Marianne) and Carline Walker (Duncan); grandchildren Sefton Spangenberg (Aimee), Ashley Spangenberg, Jason Laan, Nicole Laan, Christopher Laan, Ian Walker, Charlotte Walker, Gabrielle Spangenberg and Jacqueline Spangenberg; great grandchildren Philip Francis and Marie Nicole Spangenberg.

Michael Joseph Bradley, 26, of Wilmington and Cashiers, passed away recently from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was born in Brevard on Feb. 20, 1990, and is the son of Jim and Debbie Bradley.

Surviving in addition to his parents is a daughter, Emmersyn Marie; sister, Carey Bradley (Chaz); nephew, Kahne Bradley; grandmother, Marlene Johnson; godmother, Gretta Michelle; and many family and friends whose lives he touched along his way.

Robert William Vincent of Lake Wales, Florida, and Sapphire peacefully passed away on April 18 at his home in Lake Wales, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 90.

Bob was born in Platteville, Wisconsin, on April 27, 1925. He moved to Florida when he was six months old and spent most of his life in the Sunshine State.

Kenneth “Reid” Berglund, 68, of Cashiers, passed away Friday, April 8.

Reid loved the Carolina mountains, especially the beauty and the people of Cashiers. He was a friend and counselor to many.

Margaret (Maggie) Diamond Trotta Patterson, age 90, of Cashiers, died April 2.

Maggie died at home in her sleep, with her loving husband, Fred S. Patterson (Pat), at her side. She was born Sept. 10, 1925 in Jacksonville, Florida, to Walker D. and Ira Thelma Robinson Diamond.  

She attended the University of Georgia and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. She was a gerontologist.

Kevin Charles Kruse, 67, of Glenville, passed away Tuesday, March 22.

Born in Rahway, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Norman Kruse and Sarah Doyle Kruse. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Cathy Kruse.

Kevin loved God’s creation, whether it meant surfing, life-guarding as a teen, doing landscaping maintenance in South Florida and the mountains, or just watching the sun go down.

Ronald Edmond Cox, 68, of Cashiers, passed away at Elizabeth House on March 15, following a lengthy illness.

Ron, born and raised in Belton, South Carolina, was the son of James Bailey Cox and Sara Garrison Cox. He attended Mars Hill College and the University of South Carolina in preparation for his career as a counselor. Ron remained in his profession for over 30 years in Anderson, South Carolina, where he raised his family.

Victor Joseph Besko, 90, of Sapphire, passed away after a brief illness on Wednesday, March 9, in Dobson, North Carolina, surrounded by his loving family.
Mr. Besko was born in Schenectady, New York, and raised in Albany, New York. He was the son of Charles and Antonina Besko, a Lithuanian family, and had one brother.
At 19, he joined the Seabees during World War II and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands. After the war, he attended the University of Miami and Stetson University in Florida.  

Dorothy Hargrove Buck, a resident of Enterprise, Alabama, formerly of Amelia Island, Florida, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 12, with her family by her side. She was 84.
She is preceded in death by a son and two sisters.
Dolly is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Clifford Benjamin Buck Jr., son John M. Buck (Kitty), four grandchildren, Katie Buck Cotter (Adam), John Benjamin Buck, Cecily B. Lavoie (Chris), Benjamin Waldo Buck Jr. (Haley), and three great grandchildren, John Hagan Cotter, Hudson Lavoie and Benjamin Waldo Buck III.

Franz Peter Menge, 45, of Cashiers, passed away at the VA Medical Center/Asheville on Sunday, Feb. 21 after a valiant battle with cancer.  
He was born in Atlanta and raised in Rabun County, Georgia, graduating from Rabun County High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was present during the Persian Gulf War invasion in 1990.
