Brenda Kilpatrick Bates

Brenda Kilpatrick Bates, 67, of Glenville, died in a traffic accident on Nov. 18 in Andrews.

The daughter of Vivian and Jess Kilpatrick, Brenda was born and raised in Greenville, South Carolina, and was a 1967 graduate of Wade Hampton High School.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Bates, former city administrator of the City of Mauldin, South Carolina, and her older sister, Joan. She is survived by her mother, as well as cousins, nieces and nephews who loved her.

Brenda loved the North Carolina mountains, music, the beach and her little dog Chance. She enjoyed playing in the Sylva Bells, a handbell group, and singing in the Brevard Music Center’s Summer Music Festival. She was strong, intelligent, funny and sweet. Despite the tragedy of losing her beloved husband five years ago, Brenda lived on alone in the mountains above Glenville, proving herself to be independent and self-sufficient. She will be remembered for her spunk and kindness, and missed by all who knew her.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held in Glenville at a date and location to be announced at a later time.

Townson-Rose Funeral Home of Murphy is in charge of the arrangements.
