Malise Foster

Malise Foster, a longtime resident of Cashiers, died peacefully on Oct. 15, 2018 surrounded by friends and family.

Born in 1936 and raised in Broussard and Lafayette, Louisiana, she was an active member of the Lafayette community for many years prior to moving to Cashiers.

Malise Foster attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau and the Rosary in New Orleans, Louisiana. She was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority at Newcomb College in New Orleans, Louisiana, a charter member and president of the Junior League of Lafayette, president of the Lafayette Bar Auxiliary, president of the Lafayette City Deanery Council and a board member of Family Tree, LJYA and the Pastoral Council. Several other community organizations benefitted from her volunteer efforts and she was an active member of her Lafayette church community.

She and her family spent more than 35 years in Cashiers, first as part-time residents and then as full-time “locals.” She was very involved in the Cashiers community through her work with the Village Green, Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry, Church of the Good Shepherd Outreach and Vestry, Daughters of the King and the Summer Chapel.

Her time spent in Cashiers revolved around her many close friends as they hiked the mountains, discovered the best picnic spots, went on Elk photo safaris, danced wherever there was music to dance to and played a mean game of pool on Monday nights. She loved the Lord, her family and life and it always seemed like life loved her back. She was a good wife, good mother and a good friend who tried to let everyone know that they mattered.

Married to the late Judge David S. Foster (born Greenville, Delaware) for 50 wonderful years, she is also preceded in death by her parents Donald Louis Labbe and Aimee Billeaud Labbe. Her family includes her three children, Elise Labbe Foster Lander and husband, Roy Lander (Atlanta); Chad Foster (Madison, Georgia/Cashiers), and Patch Foster and husband Kevin Rowland (Atlanta, Georgia/Cashiers).

“Mere” leaves behind three grandchildren whom she adored, W. Foster Lander and his wife Hannah Lander (Raleigh), W. Graham Foster and D. Mason Foster (Madison, Georgia). She is also survived by several special caregivers and by her guardian angel and dear friend, Sheila Kinsey of Cashiers.

A celebration of her life is planned for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Church of the Good Shepherd in Cashiers. It will be followed by a reception.

The family may be reached at P.0. Box 467, Cashiers, NC 28717.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to Church of the Good Shepherd Outreach, P.O. Box 32, Cashiers, NC 28717 or to Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry, P.O. Box 865, Cashiers, NC 28717.
