Mary K. Lewerenz
On Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2019, Mary K. Lewerenz, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at 88.
She was born on Jan. 19, 1931 in Centralia, Ill. to Alva and Elva Shook.
In 1936, she moved to Miami with her parents where her father sought work when south Florida was undergoing a building boom. In 1942, she moved to Boynton Beach, Fla. She received her teaching degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, Fla. in 1971. She was employed with the Palm Beach County School Board in Florida, as an elementary school teacher, for 16 years, retired in 1987, and moved to Glenville.
On May 12, 1951, she married Walter "Sonny" Lewerenz. They raised two sons, Mark and Terry; a stepson, Ty; and two daughters, Sandra and Tracy.
She had a passion for traveling and learning about other cultures, she loved preparing and enjoying homemade meals for family and friends, was an avid reader of historical novels and literature, loved to bird watch and most of all she loved being in the mountains of North Carolina to watch the seasons change. She was known for her open-mindedness, forthright and unyielding demeanor and her caring love of children.
She is survived by her husband Walter; her two children, Sandra and Tracy; her granddaughter, Heather; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Lauren; her brothers, Bob and Jim; cousins, nieces and a nephew.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association. Per their mother's request, the children said no memorial service is planned.
