Robert (Bob) C. Rugenstein

Born: July 13, 1924 in Clifton Springs, New York. Died: July 6, 2016 in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

Bob resided in Tavares, Florida, and Cullowhee.

He was a loving husband of 65 years and is survived by Phyllis Kipp Rugenstein.

He was father to Kathryn Goethe (William, d.) of Lake Mary, Florida, Betsy Santarpio (Ron) of Moultonborough, New Hampshire, Robert Kipp Rugenstein (Kim Dominique) of Lake Mary, and proud grandfather to Christopher C. Rugenstein, of Lake Mary.

Bob is survived by brother James Rugenstein (Barbara) of Newark, New York, and sister Geraldine Boyd (Ralph) of Newark, New York. Deceased siblings are Dorothy Lonneville (Peter) of Port Charlotte, Florida, Joanne Benson (Burdette, d.) of Victor, New York, and George Rugenstein (Linda) of Newark, New York. He was survived by many nieces and nephews.

Bob was a World War II veteran, having served in the Pacific Arena onboard the USS Iowa. He was an Elder of Lake Mary United Presbyterian Church in Lake Mary and was an assistant scout master at Boy Scout Troop 242 in Lake Mary, where he was honored with the Order of the Arrow and affectionately known as “Tiny.” Bob belonged to the Sanford, Florida, Masonic Lodge and the Bahia Temple of
Orlando.

Bob and Phyllis raised their family in Lake Mary and discovered the Great Smoky Mountains on annual family camping trips. He and his wife built their dream retirement home near Cashiers, which he enjoyed for almost 30 years. His gardens there were legendary and nothing made him happier than mowing “the farm” on his John Deere.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at Perinton Center Cemetery, Fairport, New York.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you enjoy a piece of cherry pie in Bob’s memory. He would have liked that.
