Robert G. Varkony
Robert G. Varkony, born on Jan. 27, 1933 in Throop, Pennsylvania, passed away at age 85 on April 25, 2018 in Orlando, Florida.
He was raised in Niles, Ohio, and graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, in 1957. From 1953 to 1955, he served in the U.S. Army and in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1956 to 1961. He moved to Orlando in 1959, where he raised his family and was employed by Martin-Marietta until eventually going into business for himself as the owner of Center State Concrete Company.
Throughout his life the Glenville summer resident was active in many organizations and churches and was a talented watercolor painter.
Robert Varkony is survived by his wife of 32 years, Sarah Hovater Varkony; by his daughters, Victoria McFarland, Katherine Vernikos, and Deborah Wallace; brothers, Nicholas and Victor; and sister, Sylvia Varkony. He was a proud grandpa to 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The memorial service was Tuesday, May 1 at 1 p.m. at First United Methodist of Orlando, 142 E. Jackson St., Orlando, Florida.
