Tom Keating died peacefully on Sept. 22, 2018. He was 85 years old.
He was born in Ventnor, New Jersey, on July 24, 1933 to Beatrice (Scholler) and Francis Keating.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Lynne; and his five daughters.
He was a loving father to Cindy and Dave Catherman of Masonville, Colorado, Sue Bowhall of Tolland, Connecticut, Sally Keating of Wethersfield, Connecticut, Nancy and Bob Dickau of South Glastonbury, Connecticut, and Jen and Mark Iacobucci of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.
Tom and Lynne Keating have 13 grandchildren, Brandon and wife Ali Jean, Kyle, Ryan, Kevin and wife Gwen, Allie, Jordan, Troy, Cody, Pauline, Trevor, Kelly, Lucas, and Ava; and two great-granddaughters, Clover and Lindy.
Tom Keating was raised in the beach town of Ventnor, New Jersey, along with his brother Eddie and numerous cousins.
Besides being an altar boy at St. James Church, he was a beach lifeguard and captain for many summers.
He graduated from Villanova University in 1956 and worked at the Travelers Insurance Company for 37 years. He began his career in Hartford, Connecticut in 1956 and rose through the ranks of the company to senior vice president of Pension and Investment Operations until he retired in 1993.
After retiring, he and Lynne moved to Kiawah, South Carolina and then to Cashiers.
Tom Keating was an avid volunteer serving on finance committees and boards of several community organizations, including Rotary, Boys and Girls Club, the Humane Society, The Country Club of Sapphire Valley, Fishes and Loaves Food Pantry and the Dental Clinic. He also served as a mentor/Big Brother, and served Meals on Wheels.
Known for his love of sports, he was an avid fan of the Saint Louis Cardinals, the New York Giants, and of course, the Villanova Wildcats. He and Lynne attend St. Jude Catholic Church of Sapphire Valley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Glenville-Cashers Rescue Squad or Meals on Wheels.
