William Wright Newman
William Wright Newman, 73, of Glenville, entered into Eternal Rest on Saturday evening, July 2.
A native of Augusta, Georgia, he was the son of the late Merritt Roland II and Margarete (Hall) Newman.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he loved building guitars and boats, and could fix just about anything. A pipefitter by trade, he was a member of Local Union 150 in Augusta. He was also a Shriner and a Free Mason.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant brother, Alfred Newman.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Connie Sue Barnett Newman; one son, James “Jimmy” Argus Newman; two daughters, Shannon Renee Williams of Cashiers and Alicha Marie Weeks of Augusta; four grandsons, Adam Tarver, Zachary Schlegel, David Williams Jr. and Dakota Jace Williams; two sisters, Linda Mullins of Lincolnton, Georgia, and Betty Blackwell of Augusta; and one brother, Merritt Roland Newman III of Cashiers. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 8 at Cashiers Baptist Church with the Rev. Scotty Patrick officiating. The family received friends prior to the service. Burial was held at Glenville Wesleyan Church Cemetery.
